As seen above, that is what I call the FBI Virus (I coined it first). I have seen it hundreds of times; these computers get locked and become unusable.
This virus/malware asks you for money; it is a ransomware type of program.
What to do if you get it? Call me to make an appointment, and I will eliminate it from your computer. If you can access safe mode with networking, you will be able to download my Instant Remote Support, and from there I can help you remove it.
What you see written in the image above can sound pretty scary and is very intimidating, it is intended to threaten you, falsely accuses you of surfing illegitimate pornographic sites.
It asks you to go to any store that sells a “MoneyPak” card for the amount of $200 or so and input its code into the box (lower right corner).
Many people fall for it and lose their money; with this blog post we intend to inform you that this is a scam!
Beware of it, surf only trusted websites, do not download suspicious programs and scan your computer weekly with your antivirus program.
Needless to say, FBI is not behind this :).
Post Update: A newer/similar version of this ransomware is out, it is called the cryptolocker (I did not coin this name). This one, not only asks you for money like the FBI virus, but it also blackmails you by encrypting all of your personal documents, pictures, and videos.
Only if you pay the ransom by the deadline, they will release and decrypt your files.
It takes a bit more time to remove it compared to the FBI virus; that is because it manages to load into safe mode and can hide well.
It is important to call a local, professional computer repair company before the deadline otherwise your files will not be recovered.
Call now 516-828-1418 to make an appointment and get rid of the FBI virus.
Thank you.
